Personal strategy is a meticulously crafted and well-balanced plan, taking into account the allocation of time and resources, that describes one’s envisioned future state and outlines the specific actions, sequence of steps, and tangible as well as intangible resources required to attain it.
Most people tend to follow a simple and comfortable path in their everyday life. As a result, their actions are often uncoordinated and driven by momentary interests. They lack a comprehensive connection between their desired future state and daily activity.
While some adhere to specific moral, traditional, family, or corporate values to achieve success, others take a more deliberate approach to life. They carefully analyse their environment and make decisions based on long-term interests, leading to success and more effective and efficient use of time and resources.
However, not everyone keeps in mind multiple factors to make long-term decisions, and it is practically impossible to plan life mentally for 5-10 years. It requires a precise analysis of options, goal-setting, and selecting the right path to achieve them.
Fortunately, this course helps to make advanced analyses and choose the correct life path.

Let’s start.
If we would give, just once, the same amount of reflection to what we want out of life that we give to the question of what to do with a two weeks’ vacation, we would be startled at our false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days.

Many people struggle with where to go or what to do, not just after graduation but also after serving in the army, working, or running a business. It’s a question that half of humanity asks at some point in life.
The desire for something more exciting, enjoyable, and profitable often leads to considering a change in job or business. But how can you find right direction for your future? That’s a question that many people grapple with and one that requires careful consideration and planning.
Escaping the Rat Race: Why the Current System Needs to Change
In school, we focus solely on gaining subject knowledge and obtaining good test scores. However, school tests do not measure readiness for adulthood. They only reflect how we have learned science in the past without considering our future goals. For many students, getting into the next level of education is the ultimate goal, assuming that life trajectory will resolve itself later.
Unfortunately, this approach often leads to a life path that moves further away from our desired direction. When we have only a vague vision of success and are unsure which direction to take, our life trajectory remains hazy, if it exists at all.
Exciting things happen after you enter college or university. As a rule, the choice of profession is not very conscious, or even determined by others, such as parents or the environment, even if you think it is not. Such a trajectory chosen by others more and more drags and distracts you from your main goals in life.
What are those goals? A person begins to consider them much later.
When the daily pressure of lectures, tests, exams and entertainment stops and the work routine begins, the first disappointments come.
Our approach emphasises the importance of having a personal strategy and planning for the future. By doing so, we can ensure that we are working towards our individual goals and not just following the crowd. It also helps to increase the likelihood of achieving those goals.
The Disappointments of Graduates
One of the biggest disappointments for college graduates is the failure to meet their expectations. In most countries, the current education system falls short when providing relevant education for real-world jobs.
Often, students learn how to pass tests rather than gaining practical skills for their future careers. Furthermore, the time required for education (4-6 years) assures that the world and professions change significantly during that period. The high cost of education, including indirect costs such as alternative wages lost, makes the right choice of educational trajectory crucial.
While it is true that universities teach us how to learn, the education system struggles to keep up with the rapidly changing job market. This means that what we learn in university may not apply to real-world jobs. Employers may even tell new hires to forget everything they learned in school.
It’s frustrating to see university graduates working in jobs that do not require their levels of education, such as salespeople or bank tellers. This highlights the need for a more effective and efficient education system that aligns with the current job market and economic landscape.
Furthermore, the current system often places a heavy emphasis on grades and test scores, leading to a hyper-competitive environment that can stifle creativity and discourage students from pursuing their passions. This can lead to students feeling lost and directionless, unsure of what they truly want to do in life.
Mastering Personal Strategic Planning: Creating a Comprehensive Long-Term Plan for Your Future
How to Change Your Trajectory and Make Informed Choices
In the modern world, higher education trajectories have become prolonged and intermittent due to the gap between education and the real economy. Many graduates find themselves in jobs that do not require their level of education, which highlights the need for a more practical approach to education.
While some graduates turn to entrepreneurship to pursue their goals, they often lack practical business knowledge.
Breaking away from an unfavorable life trajectory can be challenging and requires sacrifices and compromises. However, changing your path and live a better life is possible by working on your strategy, defining your goals, and figuring out what knowledge, skills, and resources are needed to achieve them.
Choosing the right educational pathway is crucial and should consider various criteria, such as the demand for a particular profession locally and globally. I’m not saying that higher education is evil. But it may well be that the wrong choice of higher education is a greater evil than no higher education at all.
The infographic shows imbalances in medical care, highlighting the importance of access to quality education and training.
While we cannot change the entire educational system, we can make informed choices. Treating our lives consciously and starting early we can ensure a better future. It’s never too late to redefine our goals, work on our strategy, and acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve them.
Navigating the Impact of Automation on Employment
When considering your career path, be aware of global employment trends and their potential impact on your chosen industry. Imbalances in vital sectors can influence your strategic choices, and it’s crucial to keep an eye on future developments.
For instance, it’s essential to understand the potential impact of automation on job security. The likelihood of job loss due to automation is significant, and some professions have a higher probability of becoming computerised than others.
The chart below illustrates the probability of job loss due to computerisation or digitalisation.
It is essential to find your occupation on this chart and assess the chances of your career to be replaced by computerised automated systems. If the likelihood is high, it’s time to start personal planning to adapt to future changes.
We must make life decisions consciously and imagine what our future might look like in different scenarios. By understanding the potential impact of automation on employment and developing a personal strategy to adapt, we can navigate the influence of automation on our careers and ensure a successful future.
Conscious Management of Your Future
Achieving large-scale goals takes time and effort and often requires multiple attempts to sharpen skills and speed up decision-making. It’s essential to have a well-prepared and dynamic strategy to succeed.
Some suggest that you start doing your business project and learn from it. Good idea. But not everyone’s goal is to create a business. Career goals can vary from becoming a professional or hired manager to becoming a president or astronaut. Therefore, it’s crucial to identify goals and assess the resources you have.
Developing a strategy and mastering tools such as SCRUM, SWOT, PESTLE, strategic maps, resource planning, and business modelling expands the range of options available to you. The strategy will help you to understand necessary competencies and find many activities in your life which do not correspond to your long-term plans. Such knowledge is worth a lot.
It’s essential to take responsibility for your future and not rely on parents, teachers, employers, or luck. The earlier you take responsibility, the better. Even at 12 never too early to start thinking about your future. If you’re 20 or older, it’s vital to start now.
Now let’s explore several concepts that will help develop and implement your strategy.
Unlocking the Essence of Personal Strategy: Exploring Definitions
In this course, we aim to delve into the practical aspects of strategic planning, but before we proceed, it’s crucial to establish a foundational understanding of what it entails. Personal strategy is a concept that elicits varied interpretations, and it’s valuable to explore different perspectives on the matter.
Outlined below are a few definitions worth considering, although we will reveal the correct one later on:
- According to G. Konstantinov, the personal strategy involves perceiving one’s role and position in the future course of events, enabling the formulation of a strategic plan that aligns personal values with endeavors requiring significant effort.
- G. Konstantinov also asserts that personal strategy emerges from introspection and rational alignment of one’s inner world with the external environment and future aspirations.
- Another perspective presents personal strategy as mastering and managing personal Key Knowledge Assets.
While these definitions offer valuable insights, none fully capture the essence of realizing personal goals. Understanding one’s role or managing inner assets alone might not be sufficient. Additionally, success is subjective and varies from person to person. What constitutes success for one individual may differ from another’s pursuit of simple human happiness.
We can empathize with those who prioritize personal contentment over conventional notions of success. Engaging in the social system and assuming specific responsibilities may not resonate with everyone, although we will touch upon this topic in more depth later when we discuss goal formulation.
Exploring these definitions and contemplating their implications, we pave the way for a more comprehensive understanding of personal strategy. Together, we will embark on a journey to unlock the true potential of personal goal attainment.
A Proper Definition of Personal Strategy
When it comes to pursuing success as an ultimate goal, our perspective transforms. We shift our focus towards a specific objective, recognizing that its achievement defines our desired outcome. The essence lies in setting a well-defined goal and realizing that attaining it signifies success.
In light of this, we should not base our strategy on fleeting and subjective notions of success but on tangible results. Thus, we will redefine success as our desired outcome realization.
With this in mind, I advocate for a more precise definition of personal strategy. It is an adaptation of the organizational strategy, encapsulated as follows:
Personal strategy is a meticulously crafted and well-balanced plan, taking into account the allocation of time and resources, that describes one’s envisioned future state and outlines the specific actions, sequence of steps, and tangible as well as intangible resources required to attain it.

Personal strategy is a meticulously crafted and well-balanced plan, taking into account the allocation of time and resources, that describes one’s envisioned future state and outlines the specific actions, sequence of steps, and tangible as well as intangible resources required to attain it.
In line with this definition, our approach will involve developing a strategy tailored to our circumstances. We will delineate our goals, establish the methods to achieve them, justify them logically, and optimize them in terms of time, resources, and other relevant parameters.
It is crucial to recognize the fundamental distinctions between an organization and an individual:
- A company comprises a collective of individuals, while an individual stands alone.
- An organization can dismantle and reinvent itself, whereas an individual lacks such capacity.
- Limited liability applies to corporations, whereas individuals bear full responsibility.
- Commercial entities are profit-driven, while individuals possess broader intentions, and so forth.
Understanding these fundamental disparities, we pave the way for a more nuanced understanding of personal strategy. Join us on this transformative journey as we unlock the true potential of our pursuits.
Navigating the Influence of Individuality and Companies on Strategy Development
When developing our strategy, the differences between a person and a company have significant implications. Planning our entire life may seem daunting, but unlike organizations, we must consider our life priorities over a much longer time horizon.
A personal strategy should encompass various aspects, including professional development, career considerations, personal life, education, health, and more. Financial planning, while important, is just one tool among many to achieve our individual goals. That is why it is crucial to incorporate all these different aspects into a strategic plan and prepare for the journey ahead.
Developing a personal strategy is an essential tool for consciously managing our lives. To begin creating a strategic life plan, we should familiarize ourselves with some concepts that will aid our strategy development and enrich our lives.
These concepts include the scale and horizon of thinking, complexity level, and more. While we will delve deeper into these topics in our personal strategy course lessons, our current task is to get a thorough review.
Critical Considerations Before Embarking on Personal Strategy Development
To start developing a high-quality strategic plan, we should consider certain factors. It is essential to begin by envisioning realistic goals rather than indulging in unsupported dreams or building sandcastles. While there is value in dreaming, it is necessary to sort through those dreams at a later stage. If you cannot break your goals down into manageable components, how can they be effectively implemented?
I firmly believe that individuals can achieve any goal they set their minds to. However, understanding the “how” is paramount. The path to success remains elusive without a clear understanding of the goal-achievement process. Can the puzzle miraculously solve itself? Certainly not.
How to create a practical, understandable, and potentially achievable plan known as a personal strategy? This task goes beyond presenting the results and conclusions of strategic analysis in an aesthetically pleasing manner. You must justify each word in the plan and follow a logical progression.
Personal Strategy in Nurturing and Expanding Our Capabilities
Our understanding of strategy often revolves around the concept of market positioning in economics, which is suitable for guiding companies’ entry into new industries or geographical markets. This narrow perspective suggests that once we choose a specific career path, all our plans should revolve solely around that domain.
However, this simplistic view of professional development carries inherent risks. We have the potential to excel and make valuable contributions in various industries, even as leaders. Yet, the real challenge lies in the ability to adapt swiftly to fundamental shifts and embrace change.
In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, where industries undergo significant transformations, the question of “what to be” takes a backseat. We will likely assume multiple roles across enterprises or even different economic sectors throughout our lives. Therefore, the key lies in our capacity to rapidly acquire new knowledge, refine our skills, and cultivate the competencies required in these evolving domains.
When faced with profound life-altering changes impacting multiple facets, our strategy must address numerous critical success factors. Consequently, strategy development becomes a sophisticated, iterative process encompassing various stages.
In essence, our life strategy should mirror the complexity of our journey—a multi-faceted, step-by-step approach characterized by continuous refinement and adaptation.
From Evolutionary Survival Strategies to Personal Planning: Insights for Navigating Life’s Challenges
To truly understand the personal strategies employed by human beings, it is crucial to examine them within the broader context of species survival and evolution. Every species, including us, utilizes distinct strategies based on varying circumstances.
The process of cell division alone requires ample preparation time, not to mention the complexities of more advanced organisms. All living beings possess finite resources and limited energy to allocate toward their goals.
We can compare life to a strategic game characterized by alternating resource accumulation and expenditure periods, each serving a particular purpose. Survival during the winter necessitates sufficient fat reserves for hibernation, while the production of offspring requires the construction of nests. These patterns, deeply ingrained in the genomes of diverse organisms over billions of years, hold as much relevance for humans as for any other species.
Each organism possesses an explicit or implicit strategy. While many species adhere to their instincts, humans are uniquely capable of reasoning and adapting their approaches. Nevertheless, the execution of various behavioral and life strategies among different species, sometimes occurring by chance, is filtered through various life circumstances and captured by evolution through the transfer of experiences across generations.
In this regard, humans enjoy a distinct advantage, as they possess numerous opportunities to analyze past and present experiences through books, reports, and other sources of information. They can envision the future based on trends and patterns learned thus far, leveraging the knowledge gained from the collective wisdom of previous generations.
Unveiling the Unexplored: Provocative Questions for Personal Strategy
As we embark on the journey of personal strategy, we open doors to heightened self-awareness and future management. However, delving into new strategy development realms, inevitably wakes further inquiries. Here, we explore some compelling questions that demand our attention:
Can individuals be effectively motivated without a thorough understanding of their personal strategies?
Is it feasible to construct a personal brand without a strategic plan?
To both these queries, I unequivocally respond with a resounding no.
Yet, another question emerges: How do we synchronize the strategies of individuals within a community?
This profound dilemma lies at the core of my research and forms the essence of the Noosphereum project. In selected lessons of our personal strategy course, I share my journey that led me to this transformative endeavor.
